What changed
Google announced a set of measurement changes on September 10, 2026. Data Manager is being integrated directly into Google Analytics and Display & Video 360, enhanced conversions are expanding into those products, and the Data Manager API is now described as universal and based on the IAB Tech Lab Event and Conversions API standard. In Google Ads, a new Data Strength Uplift metric estimates the additional conversions recovered by a first-party-data setup. Google also made Meridian GeoX generally available globally for causal geo experiments and added new Meridian capabilities around agent-assisted modeling, brand signals and faster analysis.
Why it matters
Advertising teams have long been told that better tagging and first-party data improve measurement, but the incremental effect was hard to see directly. Google is now surfacing its own estimate of recovered conversions and linking that data foundation to causal experimentation and marketing-mix modeling. That can make measurement investment easier to justify, but it also creates a new interpretability problem: estimated recovered conversions are not the same as independently observed incremental sales. Teams should use the metric as a diagnostic and combine it with experiments rather than treating it as ground truth.
Google Ads now estimates recovered conversions from data setup
The new Data Strength Uplift metric is intended to quantify additional conversions attributed to stronger first-party data implementation. Google shows the metric directly in Ads, making tag and conversion-data quality part of the performance-management surface rather than only a setup checklist.
Data Manager is spreading across the stack
Google is integrating Data Manager into Google Analytics and Display & Video 360 and says the Data Manager API is now universal. The API is based on the IAB Tech Lab ECAPI standard, aiming to give advertisers one pipeline for audience and measurement data across multiple surfaces.
Meridian GeoX is now generally available globally
GeoX moves out of beta and lets teams run causal geographic experiments across advertising platforms or feed experiment results into Meridian marketing-mix models. That gives MMM estimates a path to calibration against controlled incrementality evidence.
Meridian is becoming more guided and agentic
Google says new agentic features can help audit data, resolve errors and guide model construction. Meridian also gains support for brand signals such as branded query volume and back-end performance improvements.
Google's uplift claims need careful interpretation
Google cites internal datasets showing conversion or ROAS improvements from stronger data setups, but these are vendor-reported averages rather than neutral guarantees. A modeled uplift metric should not be confused with a randomized experiment proving that the same lift will occur for a specific advertiser.
