What changed
On September 3, Paddle marked recurring Pix Automático subscription payments in Brazil as released. Customers can authorize a recurring Pix mandate during checkout and Paddle can use that mandate for future subscription renewals. Previously, Paddle’s Pix support was limited to one-time BRL payments. The change does not require new Paddle API fields or endpoints, and sellers that already enabled Pix are told that Pix Automático becomes available automatically for eligible recurring BRL items in Brazil.
Why it matters
Local payment-method support is a distribution and conversion constraint for SaaS, not merely a checkout preference. Extending Pix into recurring billing lets Paddle sellers offer a payment method used at very large scale in Brazil without establishing a local merchant account. The trade-off is that Pix Automático behaves differently from cards: renewals are deferred, daily billing is unsupported, one-off charges cannot ride the subscription mandate, and changing the recurring amount can force a new mandate and temporarily push a subscription into past-due state.
A one-time payment rail now supports subscription mandates
Paddle introduced Pix for one-time Brazilian purchases in 2025. The September 2026 change adds Pix Automático for subscriptions: the customer authorizes a recurring mandate at checkout, and subsequent renewal collections are initiated under that mandate.
Renewals are deliberately slower than card renewals
Pix Automático requires a pre-debit notification before renewal collection. Paddle says the payment is collected three days after that notice and can take several days to complete, so applications should not assume an immediate renewal result. Daily billing intervals are not supported.
Changing the subscription amount can break the existing mandate
The mandate authorizes a fixed recurring amount. Paddle recommends next-billing-period proration for mid-cycle changes. If a change produces a different recurring amount, the next renewal can fail, the subscription can become past_due, and the customer may need to authorize a new mandate through a payment-method update.
The payment limits affect packaging decisions
Paddle documents a 14,000 BRL maximum Pix transaction total and additionally limits subscription mandates to 1.5 times the undiscounted renewal price, which puts the documented renewal-price ceiling at roughly 9,333 BRL. Higher-ticket or unusually variable plans need another payment path or packaging strategy.
Paddle’s current documentation disagrees about rollout status
The September 3 developer changelog labels the feature Released and says existing Pix-enabled sellers need no action for eligible subscriptions. Paddle’s current Pix concept page still says subscriptions are in early access and asks sellers to apply. Builders should verify account availability in the Paddle dashboard before promising Pix subscriptions to Brazilian customers.
