Ahrefs is making a Google-derived AI demand estimate the default in Brand Radar

Ahrefs is standardising Brand Radar on an estimated AI-demand metric because major AI platforms do not publish prompt volume. The new number can improve relative weighting between prompts and platforms, but it remains a modelled proxy rather than a count of how many people actually asked an AI system a question.

Google is adding hard spend caps and commitment pricing for AI agent workloads

Google’s new agent FinOps model combines hard monthly spend caps that pause agent API calls, Flexible Savings Plans with one- or three-year commitments, pay-as-you-go Gemini Enterprise usage and planned deferred execution at up to half normal inference cost. The controls are useful, but commitment economics and task eligibility need to be modeled carefully.

A preregistered field experiment finds Google’s AI search reduces publisher clicks

The study moves the AI-search traffic debate beyond observational correlations: participants were randomly assigned to current Google Search, a version with AI features hidden, or AI Mode-only search during ordinary browsing. It is still a preprint and does not establish effects for every query or publisher.

Google Cloud opens an agent-ready device farm for mobile testing

Google Cloud’s Developer Device Platform is now in public preview with remote physical-device streaming, parallel emulator testing, smart sharding and an agent skill that can drive multi-step journeys, inspect visual issues and feed fixes back into coding agents. It is billed per active device minute and remains a pre-GA service.

Gemini 3.8 Flash raises agent capability at the same token price — but may use more tokens per task

Gemini 3.8 Flash keeps 3.7 Flash’s promotional per-token rate and Flash-tier latency, but early independent analysis suggests harder reasoning can increase tokens consumed per task. A separate 3.8 Flash Cyber model is available only through Google’s Fairwind defensive-security program.

TRACE gives AI agents a portable, hardware-attested runtime evidence format

TRACE targets a gap between audit promises and what an AI agent actually did at runtime. Its v0.2 developer preview can bind model, policy, data and tool-use claims to confidential-computing attestation, but it is still pre-ratification and explicitly not ready to treat as a production compliance guarantee.
