GitHub Copilot can now operate desktop apps, not just code
The useful boundary change is that Copilot can now cross from code and terminals into ordinary desktop interfaces, with per-app approval and organisation-level controls.

The bug is a useful warning for AI application plumbing: turning a user-supplied URL into a model attachment also turns the application server into a network client unless the adapter enforces an outbound trust boundary.
The replacement is not a drop-in path rename: Cloudflare separates domain search, availability checks and registration operations into newer endpoints, so old registrar automation can break after the cutoff.
Theme developers using Shopify CLI 3.83.x and older against password-protected storefronts are now past the documented cutoff. Shopify requires 3.84.0 or later for these flows; the live changelog's September 23 date supersedes the earlier October 1 deadline in this dossier.
Branch previews are common for frontend code, but Worker Previews extends the boundary to the runtime itself. Each branch can have independent bindings, state and logs, making parallel human and agent work safer while preserving a production-like execution path.
The dangerous detail is the delivery path: WordPress gives an unauthenticated commenter a moderation-preview URL for their own pending comment, and The Events Calendar can process attacker-controlled block markup from that preview before a moderator approves anything.
Android Bench 2.0 moves coding-agent evaluation away from small repository fixes toward dependency upgrades, app builds, migrations and other jobs that can take a human engineer days. The results expose a much larger reliability gap than short-task benchmarks—and show that the agent harness can materially change cost and outcome.
GitHub Actions now has enforceable actor and event rules before a workflow starts, plus a coming default block for a trigger that can expose repository secrets to untrusted fork code.
GitHub-hosted Actions jobs that use `ubuntu-latest` are about to change operating-system generation without a YAML edit; teams can test on `ubuntu-26.04` now or pin 24.04 while they migrate.
The important change is enforcement. WordPress.org already had a release cooldown and automated scanning, but high-risk results can now stop a plugin update automatically instead of waiting for the Plugins Team to intervene.
Google appears to have completed a talent-focused Mechanize deal: the startup still exists, but much of the team that builds coding-agent training environments and evaluations has moved into Google’s model-development work.
The interesting change is security economics rather than another hosting feature. A control that previously sat behind a $150/month add-on is now free across plans, changing the cost boundary for private dashboards, internal tools and pre-launch production domains.
This is a platform migration with a real rewrite boundary. Existing HTML games need to be rebuilt through Unity, Cocos or Laya, then have login, ads, purchases and other TikTok capabilities reintegrated and retested before relaunch.
The important signal is the infection path. A trusted maintainer can unknowingly become the supply-chain carrier when malware modifies project and build files before a normal package publish, so publisher identity alone does not prove the artifact matches the maintainer’s intent.
The counting-rule change is no longer theoretical. Early post-cutover data suggests public views can materially outpace Engaged views, with the size of the gap varying by channel size, category and discovery surface.
The workflow shift is continuity rather than another model upgrade: one Kiro agent session can outlive the laptop that started it. Cloud configuration can also carry agent setup across environments, although enterprise governance is not identical between local and web/cloud surfaces.
The security shift is deeper than running application containers as non-root: the node stack itself can now live inside a user namespace. The feature is enabled by default in 1.37, but clusters do not become rootless automatically and CNI/CSI compatibility still needs testing.
Agent Identity is moving from a standalone credential boundary into a mainstream serverless runtime. Cloud Run can now assign agent identities and register agents/MCP servers automatically, reducing custom discovery and identity plumbing while keeping the runtime integration itself in Preview.
Copilot code review now moves from advisory assessment toward a governed merge gate. The public preview remains off by default, and GitHub’s current docs let administrators separate AI approval itself from whether that approval counts toward required-review policy.
Cloudflare’s first half-year DDoS report records 935 network-layer attacks above 1 Tbps and a 519% Q1-to-Q2 increase, but says 96.62% of attacks stayed below 500 Mbps and 90.60% ended within 10 minutes. The figures are Cloudflare-network telemetry, not a neutral census of the internet.
