Private Safety Processing is OpenAI’s attempt to reconcile stronger multi-turn safety monitoring with Zero Data Retention. Early customers are testing it now, with rollout and a technical white paper planned for September; important implementation details remain unpublished.

The feature targets a core scaling constraint that often pushes applications away from SQLite-style architectures.

That makes the format materially more useful for cross-client distribution, but portable components remain limited to Agent Skills and MCP servers while permissions, hooks, commands and host UX stay client-specific.
