Playground’s legacy-runtime work turns the browser sandbox into a version-spanning compatibility lab. Maintainers can inspect old WordPress behavior without keeping obsolete PHP stacks alive, although the browser runtime is not a faithful recreation of every historical host.
WordPress 7.1 is now generally available. Its always-iframed post editor removes a long-standing split between iframe and non-iframe contexts, while browser-side image processing moves more media work out of PHP and into WebAssembly.
Tailcat is deliberately smaller than a tailnet: peers exchange a short connection token out of band, then Tailscale’s data-plane code tries direct UDP and falls back to DERP. The trade-off is that the new tool has no stability or service guarantees yet.
