GitHub Copilot can now operate desktop apps, not just code
The useful boundary change is that Copilot can now cross from code and terminals into ordinary desktop interfaces, with per-app approval and organisation-level controls.

Rosetta’s transition is now an application compatibility deadline rather than an open-ended safety net. Intel-only Mac apps need an Apple-silicon build before support ends after macOS 27, with only a narrow exception retained for older unmaintained games.
Shopify's new Events system can send the change and the data your app needs in one delivery. It's a significant alternative to classic webhooks, but not a forced shutdown or universal replacement yet.
Shopify is turning off its old cross-merchant catalog REST API on November 2. The replacement is a UCP-compatible MCP server, not a renamed URL: agents must remap tools, payloads and saved-catalog identifiers.
The migration is now much safer for background-only and bulk-installed apps: a timed-out direct conversion no longer automatically strands the store. The retry window is bounded and can end earlier after the issued pair is refreshed or another token acquisition supersedes it.
Canvas moves AI store building into production theme code, but the official requirements make the maintenance boundary clearer: entering Canvas can cut off normal theme downloads and upstream theme updates.
Theme developers using Shopify CLI 3.83.x and older against password-protected storefronts are now past the documented cutoff. Shopify requires 3.84.0 or later for these flows; the live changelog's September 23 date supersedes the earlier October 1 deadline in this dossier.
This is more than a routine quarterly version bump. Several 2026-10 changes require code updates or can change order economics and checkout behavior, so Shopify apps need to test against the release candidate before production traffic begins moving to the new stable version.
The useful shift is not another CLI convenience. A coding agent can now create a Shopify dev environment, populate it with existing API and bulk-operation tooling, test against it and tear it down without a person opening the Dev Dashboard.
The distribution shift matters beyond another sales-channel integration: product discovery, checkout, attribution and analytics can now happen off the merchant’s own storefront, and some familiar client-side pixels and checkout customizations do not travel with the order.
The migration risk is subtle: nothing breaks immediately, yet ERP, marketplace, POS and supplier integrations can become incomplete as soon as merchants start attaching multiple UPC, EAN, GTIN, ISBN or ASIN identifiers to one variant.
The non-Plus checkout migration is now an active compatibility boundary rather than an approaching deadline. Orders can continue while old post-purchase scripts, pixels or widgets stop working, making end-to-end conversion and app-behavior checks important after the cutover.
The checkout ScriptTag shutdown already had an earlier deadline; this is the separate storefront cutoff. Pinning an old Admin API version will not preserve write access after October, and any feature still depending on an injected storefront script stops working in March.
For deals and store transfers from August 10, Shopify partners can earn both subscription revenue share and a slice of merchant GMV, while the earning window becomes four years instead of perpetual.
Shopify's App Pricing migration is now clearer: directly matching subscriptions can move through plan setup, while usage-based and price-mismatched subscriptions stay on the Billing API until a separate Migration API arrives.
The migration is no longer an open-ended future plan. Reddit is killing RSS on November 13 and says remaining public API access ends by March 2027, giving bots, moderation tools, social-listening products and research integrations concrete deadlines.
Approved apps can move from the standard 20%/25% non-recurring service-fee rates to 15%/20% for new/existing installs from September 30, before any applicable billing fee. Current enrollment is limited to developer account groups with at least $1 million in earnings over the previous 12 months.
Google Play’s 2026 target-API cutoff has two separate consequences: most new submissions and updates need API 36, while existing apps below API 35 can lose distribution to new users on newer Android devices. Developers who need more time can request an extension to November 1.
GitHub OAuth apps can now use eight-hour access tokens with rotating refresh tokens, register up to 10 callback URLs, and explicitly control wildcard callback matching. New apps default to expiring tokens, while existing single-callback apps should review a legacy wildcard setting GitHub has now made visible.
Zipchat is useful as an operating case study, not a comeback story. Founder-reported figures show how a prior platform dependency failure influenced a new AI SaaS model built around reply-based pricing, channel diversification, revenue-based financing and tighter hiring discipline.
